Gardaí in Co Galway are investigating a reported sighting of a Dublin schoolteacher on New Year's Day, 24 hours after she was last seen.

Rosanne Kenny (42), of Rathmore Avenue, Kilmacud - and who is also known by her married name Rosanne Burke - has been missing since she left the Maol Reidh Hotel at Tullycross in north Connemara at about noon on New Year's Eve, where she had been staying on holidays with her husband, Ralph Burke, and brother Tom Kenny.

"I would appeal to Rosanne or anyone who has seen her to contact us as soon as possible," said her husband last night.

A member of the public contacted gardaí in Clifden yesterday following media reports and reported a possible sighting of Rosanne in the west Connemara area. The search, overseen by the Irish Coast Guard and which included three helicopters, concentrated on the area of west Connemara where the reported sighting was made.
