The wedding of Britain's Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles is to be postponed until Saturday as mark of respect to Pope John Paul II.

The prince was due to marry on Friday but following the decision to schedule the Pope's funeral on the same day, it was decided that the wedding should be postponed until the following day.

Buckingham Palace said Prince Charles would be representing the Queen at the Pope's funeral.

The decision was taken with Mrs Parker Bowles following a meeting with the Prince's advisers today. Sources said Prince Charles was "very keen" to display sensitivity on the issue.

Mrs Parker Bowles will not be accompanying the prince to the funeral.
