Two men accused of demanding money with menaces from members of their Dublin-based Chinese communities have been remanded in custody.

Lin Hou (23) and Donghao Shi (23), both of no fixed address, were charged with extortion from a number of people living in the Parnell Street-Moore Street areas between October and December 14th last when they were arrested.

It was alleged that unless they were paid several hundred euro, they would carry out threats of violence.

Dublin District Court heard bail was refused on December 15th when they first appeared in court and when their alleged victims gave evidence that they were living in fear of their return if released.
