Former assistant Dublin City and County manager George Redmond today pleaded not guilty to accepting £10,000 for a land deal.

The 81-year-old was charged at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court with accepting the corrupt payment for the sale of 167 acres in Buzzardstown, Co Dublin.

The retired official denied receiving the money for the arrangement of or inducement to making a compulsory purchase order on the land between June 1985 and June 1986.

Mr Redmond pleaded not guilty before lawyers for both sides opened legal arguments relating to the trial.

Reporting restrictions were placed on the hearing by Judge Joseph Matthews.
