Italian Open:The first round of the Italian Open was delayed by at least two hours today following days of persistent rain in Turin.

Play was due to get under way at 7.30am local time but was put back due to a saturated course which also saw yesterday's pro-am washed out.

Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie was among the early starters but had clearly expected the delay.

"I played here last year and enjoyed it, even though I didn't play well and wasn't here for the weekend, but I think we might all be here for the weekend this year given the weather," Montgomerie joked yesterday.
