A post mortem is currently underway this evening on the body of a 29-year-old eastern European national who died after a suspected assault in Dublin city last night.

The man was taken to St James's Hospital after arriving at a friends apartment in the Islandbridge area at 11.30pm with serious injuries.

But he died a short-time later. Gardaí believe they have identified the man but have not yet released his name. They are treating the death as suspicious.

Gardaí believe the man was attacked near his friend's apartment at Bridgewater Quay.

The apparent scene of the assault at Park Place in Islandbridge remains sealed off this evening as gardaí continue a technical examination.
