PSNI officers have launched their first bike patrol in the overwhelmingly nationalist area of Derry's west bank.

Community neighbourhood officer Sgt Frank Smith and a colleague took part in the patrol which they said received a good community response."This was the first time we have had a push-bike patrol on the west bank of the city," said Sgt Smith."It has proved a success on the Waterside, and is a popular method of patrolling for both ourselves and the community."

He said community feedback was good, and the community recognised the need for the police to be seen and to be accessible.
