It is understood that 28 passengers were on the Cork train, while an unspecified number were on the Tralee train.

All passengers were taken to Dublin by bus after the pair refused to end their protest.

According to an Iarnród Éireann spokesman, the guard took the action after he was disciplined for "a failure to discharge his duties".

The two men said they would keep up their action until their grievances were listened to by station management.
