Pay cut plans unrealistic, say unions

Government proposals for an extension to the Croke Park agreement would see a cut of around 10.6 per cent for the average frontline public service worker, unions have argued.

Public service unions involved in the new 24/7 alliance said the Government proposals were unacceptable and unrealistic.

A national rally of around 2,000 union activists will take place next Monday in protest at the Government proposals.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, the general secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation Liam Doran said unions wanted the Government to radically overhaul its proposals and to leave total earnings alone.
