BRITAIN: A man accused of carrying bullets on a flight from Washington to London's Heathrow Airport appeared in court yesterday.

Mr Wassila Alhibr Alwasila (45), from Sudan, was charged with possession of ammunition when he appeared before Bow Street Magistrates' Court in central London. The bearded defendant, wearing a blue checked shirt and khaki trousers, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the brief hearing.

He was remanded in custody until January 23rd when the case will next be heard before the same court, but the defendant will not be required to attend. He was arrested on Wednesday at Heathrow's Terminal 3 after flying from Washington's Dulles Airport on Virgin Atlantic flight VS022. He had been due to take a connecting flight to Dubai with a different airline. - (PA)
