Customs officers at Rosslare Europort in Co Wexford have seized cannabis resin valued at almost €6 million.

A British national with an address in Carlow was being questioned by gardaí in Wexford town yesterday in connection with the 850kg haul.

The drugs were packed in 17 large unmarked cardboard boxes in a container which had arrived on Wednesday by ferry from Cherbourg. The consignment is believed to have originated in Spain.

The seizure is the latest in a series of cigarette and drug discoveries at Rosslare. Two cigarette seizures, worth about €2 million, were made by Rosslare customs officials last month.
