Equestrian: Cian O'Connor finished second behind Jan Bruggink of the Netherlands in the Speed Stakes on the opening day of the Fáilte Dublin Horse Show.
The Irishman, on Baloufina, clocked a time of 61.33 seconds, nearly three seconds of pacesetter Bruggink who managed 58.74 seconds aboard Acodetto.
Sweden's Peder Fredricson registered a time of 61.33seconds to finish third, marginally ahead of another Irish contender Captain Shane Carey, who completed the course in a time of 62.04 seconds on Cashla Bay.
Conor Swail and HSS Cheerio (62.37) were sixth.
A time of 73.24 seconds saw Tipperary's Denis Lynch take third in the day's opener, the Fáilte Stakes, with Upsilon d'Ocquier.
Bruggink was second with a time of 71.24 seconds, but Fredricson was quickest on Maloubet De Pleville in 70.86 seconds.
Aboard Toscan, Darragh Kerins (79.76) was eighth, while Niall Talbot (80.18) was 10th on Onisha.
In the Irish Sports Council Classic Darragh Kerins rode Night Train into third after a faultless round completed in 40.60 seconds.
Switzerland's Markus Fuchs was first aboard La Toya III in 39.35, with America's Lauren Hough and Casadora second in 39.49 seconds.
