New Year revellers raise €1m for tsunami aid

Over €1 million was raised over the New Year weekend for the tsunami disaster relief effort.

The total figure raised in a combined effort by An Garda Siochana, the Licensed Vintners Association, the Vintners Federation of Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation was €1,089,453.32.

The Garda Commissioner Mr Noel Conroy, along with representatives from the other organisations will present a cheque to the Irish Red Cross for the South East Asia Disaster Relief fund in Dublin tomorrow.

In a statement released today the Garda thanked the public and their own members for the huge effort involved in raising the money.
