A date for the trial of former assistant Dublin city and county manager George Redmond on corruption charges has been set for December.

Mr Redmond (79) was originally due to stand trial last December, but his lawyers succeeded in having the date deferred to allow him to into hospital for surgery.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today, Judge Desmond Hogan set a new date for December 5th, despite objections from Brendan Grehan SC, counsel for Mr Redmond.

Mr Grehan argued his client was still undergoing medical treatment and further time would be needed to ascertain when he would be fit to stand trial.

Mr Redmond, who successfully appealed a previous conviction for corruption, has been granted free legal aid for the trial.
