As the removal of the remains of murder victim Brian Fitzgerald took place in Limerick last night, gardaí are still hunting his killers.
It was revealed at the weekend that the 34-year-old father of two had recently withdrawn a statement to gardaí about intimidation by a drugs gang to protect his family. A Garda source said he was being intimidated and had made a statement but later withdrew it.
Gardaí are investigating a theory that the killing early on Friday morning was carried out by a drugs gang refused permission to the Doc's Nightclub in The Granary Courtyard, Michael St, where Mr Fitzgerald was head of security.
A postmortem examination by chief State pathologist Dr John Harbison at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital showed he died from multiple shotgun wounds to the body.
