Gardaí investigating the death of a 69-year-old man in Cork yesterday are looking for a man in his mid-20s who is believed to have been in the area.

The man is described as being 6 foot and of thin build. He may have been carrying two small bags or rucksacks.

A garda spokesperson said they would like to hear from anyone who was in the St Francis Avenue, College Road area of the city between 11.30pm on Friday and 1pm yesterday and who may have seen a man fitting this description.

Taxi or hackney drivers, or anyone who may have given this man a lift on the Cork to Kinsale road are asked to contact Togher Garda Station in Cork at 021-4947120.

The body of the 69-year-old father of five was discovered in his home on St Francis Avenue off College Road yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí are treating his death as suspicious.

A post mortem examination is currently underway.
