Golf:American Scott McCarron used a blazing front nine to vault into the lead heading to the final round of the USPGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open.

McCarron, a three-times tour winner looking for his first victory since 2001, had four birdies in his first seven holes and added an eagle at the par-five ninth on his way to a five-under-par 67 and a 10-under 206 total.

The 45-year-old McCarron, playing at his home Montreux Golf & Country Club course in Reno, held a one-shot lead over compatriots John Mallinger (71) and overnight co-leader Robert Garrigus (73).

Canada's Graham DeLaet zoomed up the leaderboard into a tie for fourth after he fired a bogey-free 62 to reach eight-under-par 208.

DeLaet, a 28-year-old from Saskatchewan, birdied five successive holes from the second and added another birdie at the ninth to match McCarron's front nine of six-under 30. He added four more birdies after the turn.

American Craig Barlow (67) and Rod Pampling of Australia, who both posted 67 in the third round, were tied with DeLaet.

American Matt Bettencourt, who shared the overnight lead with Garrigus, shot 75 for 209.
