A man is being treated in hospital today after he was shot in both legs in Derry late last night.

Two other people in a house in the Cornshell Field area of the city were not injured when a number of masked men burst in and shot the man at around 11.50 pm.

Police are understood to be keeping an open mind on the motive for the attack and say the victim's injuries are "not life threatening".

Elsewhere in Co Derry, police are treating an overnight petrol bomb attack on a house at Clara Hill, Kilrea, near Coleraine, as racially motivated.

The bomb was thrown at the rear of the house at around 12.20 am. rear The five Polish occupants were not hurt and scorch damage was caused to the house.
