A 22-year-old man was remanded in custody at Limerick District Court yesterday charged in connection with a fatal attack on another man in the city.

The attack happened early yesterday at a house in O'Malley Park, in the Southhill area. Gardaí from Roxboro Road found the man's body in the front room of the house.

The man charged in connection with the incident is Mr Gary Kirby, of O'Malley Park. He was charged with assaulting Mr Trevor McNamara. The court was told that when charged, he replied that he was sorry for what had happened.

Mr Kirby was granted free legal aid and remanded in custody until Tuesday by Judge John O'Neill.

Forensic officers from the Garda Technical Bureau and the assistant State pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, spent time yesterday examining the scene.

Dr Cassidy is due to carry out a post-mortem examination today.
