A 60-year-old man was stable in hospital last night after being beaten with a sledge hammer at his home in north Belfast on Wednesday. A number of men forced their way into his house on the New Lodge Road before 11 p.m. and beat the man about his head, body and legs. The police said they did not know any motive.
