Man faces court over burglary

A man in his 20s was to appear before Tullamore District Court this morning charged in connection with an aggravated burglary at St Bridgets Place, Tullamore, on Monday.

The burglary occurred at about 6pm when a lone man forced his way into the house of an elderly woman and threatened her. He proceeded to steal a sum of money before he was disturbed by the woman's daughter returning to the house.

The man then fled the scene and neither woman was injured.

Gardaí investigating the incident arrested a man in his 20s a short time later in the Tullamore area. He was detained at Tullamore Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
