A man accused of murdering his son three years ago appeared before Judge Conal Gibbons at yesterday's sitting of Tullamore District Court, where he was remanded in custody for a week.

Mr Thomas Groome, Fintavin, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, was charged with the murder of Christopher Groome at Churchview Heights, Edenderry, Co Offaly, on November 15th, 1999. The court was told by Sgt James Queeney, Edenderry, that he had arrested the accused earlier that day. He said that when charged the accused replied: "I didn't murder my son".

Mr Donal Farrelly, solicitor representing the accused, said that in due course his client would be pleading not guilty. Judge Gibbons remanded Mr Groome in custody to Tullamore court next Wednesday.
