A man was abducted and raped in the back of a van in Co Antrim, the PSNI said today.

The victim, in his mid 20s, was attacked near Ballymena Rugby Club. He was dragged off the Broughshane Road by two men who bundled him into the back of a white Ford Transit on Thursday night.

One of the pair held him down while the others carried out the serious sexual assault. Police believe the attack happened in a layby and lasted for up to 10 minutes.

The victim received hospital treatment following his ordeal. At least 15 male rapes have been reported to police in Northern Ireland since last April. There were 22 confirmed cases the year before.
