A 47-year-old man died after he was swept into the sea last night by a wave in a Northern Ireland fishing village.
He was named as Paul Bogues from Ardglass, Co Down. It was the second maratime tragedy to befall his family this year.
The body of his son Conor (26) has not been recovered since his fishing boat sank off Ardglass in January.
The alarm was raised at around 9 pm after a wave struck the man after spilling over the pier in the Co Down village of Ardglass.
Coastguard Watch Officer Rob Steventon said lifeboat crews from Newcastle and Whiterock were immediately dispatched.
"At 9.30pm, the police informed us a person had been recovered from the water and taken to hospital in Downpatrick by ambulance," he said. "Unfortunately he has lost his life."
