In the first, a shotgun was discharged at two bouncers outside the Arc night-club in the centre of Dundalk. One of the men was hit in the leg and the other in the hand. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The shot was fired from the rear window of a car just before 1 a.m.

About 10 minutes later a shotgun was discharged at a kitchen window in Dromad Garda station, about eight miles north of Dundalk, where three gardai were on a meal break. The gardai were showered with glass and were badly shocked.
