A mother has made an emotional appeal for information on the whereabouts of her teenage son who went missing in Limerick nearly a week ago.

Mr Gerard McNamara (19) has not been seen since he disappeared from the Clare Street area of Limerick on Friday last, the date of his late father's birthday.

His distraught mother, Bernadette, said yesterday that she had no idea what happened to her son. "I am walking the streets every night looking for him. My nerves are shot to pieces now, and I don't know what to do. I just want to hold my son again. Gerard's dad died a year and a half ago, and Gerard went missing on the day of his father's birthday. He has not been right since his father died," said Ms McNamara.

There was one reported sighting of the young trainee carpenter in the vicinity of the Omniplex Cinema in Dooradoyle, but his mother searched the area and did not locate her son.
