Labour's Upton calls for analysis of food prices

The Labour Party spokesperson on Agriculture and Food is calling for an independent assessment of food prices.

The Labour Party spokesperson on Agriculture and Food is calling for an independent assessment of food prices.
Dr Mary Uptonwants the difference in the costs of producing foods and the consumer prices to be investigated.
"There is a very significant difference between the cost of producing the foodstuff and the retail price presented to the consumer," she said.
"In recent times, a range of reports and assessments on this subject has been compiled and they all agree with this analysis, but it is usually by one vested interest or another.
"Clarity, from an independent assessment, is needed to establish for once and for all where the 'rip-off' is taking place," Dr Upton said.
