KEY REGIONAL roads have been severely damaged as a result of the recent adverse weather.

These include the N52 Dundalk to Tipperary road via Co Offaly, the N59 Galway to Clifden road between Oughterard and Maam Cross, and the N24 Tipperary to Carrick-On-Suir road. In Co Carlow “whole sections” of local and county roads have been “torn away” by flowing water, the county council said.

Local authorities elsewhere warned of damage to roads Co Wicklow between Laragh and Roundwood; at Kilcarry Bridge in Clonegal, Co Carlow; between Cork and Killarney; and on the Gorey to Tinahealy road in Co Wexford.

Pothole repair work took place in the Ballymote and Enniscrone areas of Sligo yesterday, while Clare County Council said it was attending to potholes on a priority basis and would advise road-users to be vigilant.
