Presenter of RTÉ’s first current affairs programme dies

The former RTÉ presenter John O’Donoghue has died.

Mr O'Donoghue presented the national broadcaster's first current affairs programme, Broadsheet, in the early 1960s. It aired on January 1st, 1962, and focused on providing a detailed analysis of topical issues and current affairs. Along with Mr O'Donoghue, it was presented by Brian Cleeve and Brian Farrell. It was broadcast for the last time in 1964, when it was replaced by Frank Hall's Newsbeat.

Mr O'Donoghue went on to present the popular current affairs programme Seven Days. It was first broadcast on September 26th, 1966 and went on to become RTÉ's flagship current affairs programme.
