Gaiety theatre opens as normal after fire on Monday night

No damage to building after electrical fault causes fire in a pump servicing cold room

The Gaiety theatre and box office are operating as normal today after a fire in an isolated part of a cold room at the theatre on Monday evening.

The fire started at about 5.30pm and was quickly brought under control by Dublin Fire Brigade who sent three engines and a turntable ladder to the scene.

The building was evacuated.

A spokesman for the theatre said the fire was a minor one, caused by an electrical fault in a pump servicing the cold room.

He said there was no damage to the building and no-one was hurt in the incident.

Wednesday night's opening of Fly Me To The Moon will go ahead as planned, he said.

There had been no performance scheduled for Monday night so members of the public were not affected.
