Darts between Bray and Greystones not expected to return today

Irish Rail operates replacement commuter train after lightning damage

Dart services are not expected to return this evening between Bray and Greystones after over lightning damage, Irish Rail has said.

However Irish Rail said that commuter train was shuttling between Bray and Greystones to replace the Dart every half an hour . It was hopeful that services would return to normal by morning.

This morning Irish Rail suspended Dart service between the Co Wicklow towns after lightning damaged overhead lines last night. However Irish Rail said Dublin Bus would accept rail tickets for Dart commuters to or from Greystones. Rosslare and commuter services were operating fully. "This disruption is expected to continue for most of the day as repair works take place," Iarnród Éireann said on its website.

Earlier rush hour Luas services were disrupted after a collision between a tram and a truck at Harcourt Street about 8.30am. Luas green line services resumed at about 9.30am. Services were disrupted in both directions for about an hour with trams only running between Brides Glen and Beechwood.

The tram involved in the crash near the entrance to Iveagh Gardens has been moved. It was driven along the tracks slowly from the scene towards St Stephen’s Green at about 9.20am. There was broken glass inside the tram after windows appear to have been cut or broken to free the truck.

The skip hire vehicle (with no skip) was earlier freed from the tram. It appeared to only to have minor damage to its wheel mudguard. It left the area shortly after 9.15am.

There are delays to trains operating between Cork and Cobh and Cork and Midelton after a truck damaged an overbridge. Irish Rail said bus transfers were in operation.

Meanwhile, due to a signal fault, train services were suspended between Maynooth and Clonsilla, and between M3 Parkway and Clonsilla. They resumed with delays shortly after 11.30am when the fault was rectified. Iarnród Éireann apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
