Cargo ship runs aground off coast of Dublin

The MV Cielo di San Francisco was en route from Cork to Dublin with 21 people on board

A cargo ship ran aground on a sandbank off the Dublin coast this morning.

The MV Cielo di San Francisco en route from Ringaskiddy to Dublin hit a sandbank between the Kish Bank and Bray at about 9.30am. The Kish Bank is about 11km off the coast.

There were 21 people on board and there are no reports of any injuries.

A tow is being arranged for the ship. If that is not successful an attempt will be made to float the ship at high tide this evening at 11.55pm.
