Woman's body found on seashore

The body of a woman in her 40s was discovered on the shore at Beal Point, Ballybunion, shortly before 3.30pm yesterday afternoon. The body was removed to Kerry General Hospital.

The recovery followed a four-day search co-ordinated by Ballybunion Sea Cliff and Rescue.

The woman’s car was located in Ballybunion on Thursday. It is expected a postmortem will be carried out today.

Body of missing hiker is found

Search and rescue teams in the Mourne mountains looking for a middle-aged man have found a body.

Maurice Donaldson (53) was last seen on Thursday and the body was found about half a mile from where he had left his car.

The PSNI does not suspect a crime and Mr Donaldon’s family have been notified.

Heaney takes part in Gaza reading

Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney is among the writers who will take part in a reading in response to recent events in Gaza in St Anne’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin, tomorrow evening from 6.30-8.30pm.

Other participating in the reading, organised by Poetry Ireland in association with Trócaire and Amnesty International, include Anne Enright, Colm Tóibín, Susan McKay, Hugo Hamilton, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Lia Mills, John F Deane, Macdara Woods, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Peter Sirr and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill.

New rector for Monkstown

The Ven Patrick Lawrence, Rector of Julianstown and Archdeacon of Meath and Kildare, has been appointed as the new Rector of Monkstown in the diocese of Dublin.
