Body may be that of missing musician
A body found on a beach near Louisburgh, Co Mayo, early yesterday may be that of a musician who went missing earlier this month while attempting to swim from the Connemara shoreline to an offshore island about a mile away. Michael Nagy, the piano player at Renvyle House Hotel, disappeared on September 10th while attempting to swim to uninhabited Crump Island.
Around 9.30am yesterday a badly decomposed body was found by a local person on the beach at Barnabhán, Louisburgh.
The remains were taken to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital where a postmortem was to be carried out.
Girl (4) died from crush injuries
A four-year-old girl died from traumatic asphyxia due to crush injuries in a farm accident after she fell near the front wheel of a tractor being driven by her father, an inquest in north Cork heard yesterday.
Miriam Cronin was running towards the tractor when she fell on rough ground near the front right wheel of the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries near the family's home at Knockeragh, Tullylease near Charleville on July 15th last.
Stab wound to neck killed man
A Brazilian father of three died from a single stab wound to the neck, an inquest into the man's death heard yesterday.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster said meat factory employee Alberto Do Prado Oliveira (47), a native of Anapolis, west Brazil, died from a single stab wound to the neck on September 21st in Charleville.
FF gains control of Donegal council
Fianna Fáil has secured an overall majority on Donegal County Council for the first time since the early 1970s following the formal acceptance of two former Independent Fianna Fáil councillors into the party.
Councillors Dessie Larkin and Liam Blaney were officially brought into the Fianna Fáil party on Monday prior to a monthly council meeting.
This means that 16 of the 29 councillors are now members of the party.
