London - A man who is being questioned over the Thailand murder of a backpacker, Kirsty Jones, yesterday protested his innocence from inside his crowded police cell.

Speaking from behind bars at Chiang Mai's central police station, Andrew Gill claims he was not at the Aree Guesthouse - which he owns - when Ms Jones (23) was raped and killed in the early hours of Thursday. Mr Gill (32), who shares a cell with 15 people, said: "I had absolutely nothing to do with her murder." He is originally from Northern Ireland.
