Three of the hostages were released earlier in the day and the final three were freed early in the afternoon after a specialist police negotiating team was sent to the scene at Rungis, site of the main Paris wholesale food market.

Witnesses saw police officers entering the bank and leaving with one man. It was not clear what happened to the second hostage-taker.

The two suspects appeared to have arrived by scooter and authorities have found surveillance camera footage of their entry to the bank.
