US Senator Hillary Clinton has collapsed after making a speech in Buffalo, New York.

The former First Lady  reportedly told the crowd she was feeling weak and had had a stomach virus before collapsing.

It is understood she had been suffering from a 24-hour bug and was not taken to hospital.

The Democratic senator resumed her speech after a brief break, declining to be taken to hospital after being treated by medics at the scene.

Ms Clinton (57), was scheduled to speak later at a Catholic college about healthcare, despite protests from anti-abortion groups.

Senator Clinton is mentioned frequently as a possible candidate for president in 2008.

Her 58-year-old husband, former President Bill Clinton, underwent quadruple bypass surgery in September.
