The Minister for Justice Michael McDowell announced "Operation Anvil" earlier this month as a response to organised crime.

He said it would provide an intelligence-driven response to those involved in gun crime in the Dublin metropolitan region. The Minister has allocated €6.5 million for garda overtime to provide resources for the operation.
