It's expensive. . .there's no getting away from it. To get there you'll have to fly via London and Atlanta. The regular airfare is over £600, and prices go higher during the summer. There are many places to stay, and prices range from $40 a night at the Howard Johnson Motel (the "Ho Jo") to over $200 in the exquisite grand old Magnolia Inn in the historic district where John Berendt stayed while researching his book.
