Garda hospitalised after Monaghan assault

A garda has been hospitalised after he was assaulted early yesterday morning.

A garda has been hospitalised after he was assaulted early yesterday morning.

The garda was on duty at Penny Bridge, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan at 2.30am when he approached a man who was acting suspiciously.

The man then assaulted the guard and pushed him down an embankment into a river. The garda suffered a broken wrist in the fall.

He is recovering in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí at Carrickmacross are appealing for information.
