The Garda Ombudsman is seeking witnesses to a car crash in Co Kildare last night which left a man in his 20s dead.

Gardaí said the two-vehicle collision happened at about 3.20am on the Naas to Newbridge dual carriageway, the R445.

The man was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Garda Ombudsman is looking for anybody who may have seen a red Toyota Corolla with a 99-D registration plate between the hours of 2.30am and 3.20am.

The car was seen at the Kilminchy roundabout, Portlaoise travelling north along the Dublin Road between 2.30am and 3.00am. It was then seen travelling through Naas town centre shortly before the fatal incident

Separately, gardaí appealed for witnesses after a 34-year-old woman died in a crash in Monaghan on Friday.

Four people were also injured in the two-car crash, which took place on the N2 at Tullyvaragh Lower near Carrickmacross at 5pm on Friday evening.

The woman who was driving one of the cars died and three passengers, including two children and a 62-year-old woman, suffered injuries in the incident.
