The GAA president has said that contrary to recent media speculation the organisation remains fully committed to the proposed Long Kesh stadium project.

In a statement released this afternoon Nickey Brennan said that "the GAA is committed to continued involvement to the progression of the development plans for the proposed multi sports stadium at the Long Kesh/Maze site."

Brennan said that the GAA has representatives working on the design and operational briefs consistent with its decision taken in September 2005.

Construction of a sports stadium on the 350-acre site of the former prison is due to began next year with all the major sporting organisations in the North haven given the plan their backing.
