The funeral takes place at St Bernard's church in Levittown, New York, today of 46-year-old Co Monaghan man, Mr Eugene McMahon.

He was shot in the head in Queen's, New York city last Friday and died on Monday in Elmhurst hospital from his wounds.

Mr McMahon was originally from Gola Mill, Scotstown, Co Monaghan.

He was a married man with one son and two daughters and was found in the car in a desolate industrial area of Queens.

He worked with the Department of Environmental Protection Agency in New York after emigrating in 1985.

Police in Queens say it may have been an attempted mugging.

However, Irish people in the area say a laptop computer and a camera were found in the back of the car untouched.
