Five arrested over murder

Five people were arrested in Limerick yesterday in connection with the murder of a Southill man last year.

Five people were arrested in Limerick yesterday in connection with the murder of a Southill man last year.

The body of Thomas Moran was found on waste ground in John Carew Park, Southill, on November 13th. He had suffered a gunshot wound.

Gardaí investigating the murder arrested three women and two men on the south side of Limerick city early yesterday as part of their investigation.

All five are in their 30s, and are being questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A Garda source described the arrests as "significant in terms of the overall investigation".

They bring to six the number of people arrested this week in connection with Mr Moran's death.

Another man who was arrested on Monday was released without charge. It is understood he was being held in relation to withholding information about the murder.

The five people arrested last night were being detained for questioning at Roxboro, Mayorstone, Henry Street, Askeaton and Bruff Garda stations.
