A fire has destroyed a large furniture store and showrooms in Co Monaghan this evening causing thousands of euro of damage.
Fire units from across Co Monaghan battled the blaze which engulfed the premises of Killarue Floor and Carpets Limited, off the main Carrickmacross/Ballybay Road, about four miles from Carrickmacross in South Monaghan.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known but at its height the flames rose 100-200 feet in the air and locals up to 5 miles away reported seeing the smoke.
Nobody was injured in the blaze, which was fueled by the contents of carpets and furniture in the premises.
