Among the battalion of soldiers going to Chad on January 25th are father and son Sgt Karl Cosgrave (43) and Gunner Glen Moody (19) from Coolock in Dublin.

“I’m very proud to have my son with me and I am looking forward to serving on a UN mission with him after what I saw in the Glen of Immal,” Sgt Cosgrave said yesterday.

Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea reviewed the 400 members of 102nd Infantry Battalion in Dundalk yesterday .

The Minister confirmed that the number of troops on peacekeeping duties in Kosovo and Bosnia would be reduced this year as a result of the economic climate and a €45 million cut in the department’s budget.
