Gaelic Games:Galway's Ger Farragher and Armagh's Stephen McDonnell have today picked up the GAA Vodafone Player of the Month awards for April.
Three-time All Star footballer McDonnell played a pivotal role in captaining Armagh to the Division Two title, secured with a two point win over neighbours Down last weekend.
The Killeavy clubman scored six points, five from play, against Armagh’s fierce rivals and now looks forward to a mouthwatering championship opener with Derry in just over 10 days’ time (May 16th).
Midfielder Farragher is Galway’s second hurler to pick up the award after February was Iarla Tannian’s month.
The 27-year-old, an All Star himself in 2005, was particularly influential against Dublin at Parnell Park as the Tribesmen secured a Allianz National Hurling League final berth alongside Cork.
Sunday saw Galway claim the Division One title, with Farragher again to the fore.
Congratulating both players today, GAA president Christy Cooney said: “Both Steven and Ger can be classed among the most stylish players in their codes.
“Stephen has served Armagh superbly over the years and so far this year his displays show that he is most definitely leading by example as captain.
“Likewise, Ger Farragher is one of the most stylish players in hurling and was hugely influential in getting Galway to this year’s league final.”
