A group of farmers in west Clare are to share a massive €15.5 million windfall over the next 20 years from the operation of a new €200 million windfarm, it has emerged.
According to documentation in plans just lodged by West Clare Renewable Energy Ltd with Clare County Council, 30 farmers are to receive an aggregate €775,000 each year from the 20 year operation of the windfarm.
The dividend equates to €516,666 to each of the farmers over the course of the project. The local communities of Connolly, Inagh, Kilmurry Ibrickane, Miltown Malbay and Kilmaley are to also benefit by receiving €46,500 per annum when the windfarm is fully operational. The council will receive €10 million in rates during the course of the plan.
