Rainfall warning for counties Mayo and Galway lifted

A rainfall warning for parts of Connacht was lifted at noon on Saturday.

The Met Eireann warning had applied to Co Galway and Co Mayo with between 25 to 30mms of rain forecast for the 24 hours until noon. The heaviest of the rain fell overnight.

Separately, motorists nationwide have been advised to exercise caution after wet driving conditions contributed to a number of minor collisions. Dublin Fire Brigade said overnight rain had led to dangerous road conditions.

There is better weather news for the rest of the bank holiday weekend with brighter, fresher forecast to extend from west from Saturday afternoon.

Conditions on Saturday will be bright, fresh and blustery, with sunny spells in parts of the country and temperatures reaching 9 to 13 degrees.

Saturday evening will be dry but cool, with temperatures dropping to 5 degrees.

The forecast for Sunday is for mostly dry weather in the east and south with some bright spells. However, there will be rain in western and northern parts of the country.

It will become very windy overnight on Sunday, with strong winds turning gale force by the following morning.

Clouds and windy weather are expected over Dublin on the bank holiday Monday, with rain spreading from the west and becoming more widespread later in the day. Temperatures for the marathon will reach between 13 and 14 degrees.
