Former champion Richard Krajicek has pulled out of this year's Wimbledon because of his longstanding elbow injury, his coach Rohan Goetzke confirmed today.

After being beaten by Olivier Mutis in the first round of the Ordina Open, Dutchman Krajicek said he was looking forward to another attempt at the title, but then changed his mind and withdrew from the championships.

"It's because of the injury," said Goetzke. "It's not like it gets better if he doesn't train. He would need an injection to play Wimbledon and he doesn't want to do that.

"He is very upset. He is not playing Wimbledon but will think about things and hopes to return in time for the hardcourt season."

Last year Krajicek returned from a spell of 20 months off the tour to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, losing in five sets to Swiss Xavier Malisse.
